Manufacturing Line 101: The basics of Assembly Line Machines Machines

A typical assembly line contains, at a minimum, the following items:

Board Loader
Blank PCBs are stacked here for use with the screen printer. This is preferable to manual insertion due to a higher speed capability.

Screen Printer
Solder paste is applied to a blank board through a screen and wiper. Paste may be RoHS (Lead Free), or SnPb (Leaded), with no-clean or other fluxes. Typically, No Clean satisfies most customer requirements. Lead and Lead Free is visually segregated by use of different color schemes on the stencil, blade, and paste itself.

High Speed Placement
Also known as a ‘chip-shooter’, the smallest and most plentiful parts are placed first. This operation is quite fast! A modest machine operating at capacity can place over 50,000 parts per hour!

High Flexibility Placement
All remaining IC’s, connectors, BGA’s, or odd sized parts are placed by a high-end placement machine. These flex placers may accept reels, tubes, trays, any form parts may come (but not bulk!).

Convection Reflow Oven
Thermal profile is key to success! Using a high amount of reflow zones, Aimtron can put more boards through at a faster rate, while preventing any thermal shock.

Conveyors:
Between all machines are transport conveyors. They can  signal each other to pass a board to the next station when ready.

Post-Line operations include Automated Optical Inspection, and Reporting.

Aimtron takes great care to prevent problems from occurring on the line. It is a lean concept to prevent errors at their source. Our combination of experience, passion, and procedure helps us reduce overhead cost to you, and waste in the process.

Are you ready to experience the Aimtron difference?

Kinjal

Aimtron strives to recognize the multiple talents of our employees. This month, we would like to recognize Kinjal Patel for outstanding achievements related to several projects for key clients.

Educated with a degree in Mechanical Engineering, Kinjal has been working in the EMS / CEM industry, commanding a diversified array of skills in all aspects of the production line.

Knowledgeable in key skills from CAD to machine maintenance, Kinjal has proved to be a reliable member of Aimtron’s team. Additionally, she exhibits leadership skills  through training and mentoring her peers.

CAD Station

Recently, Kinjal lead her team through a complicated prototype build in record time. The assembly consisted of 203 unique feeders, placing over 1200 SMT components. The order was set up, built, and shipped to the end client in two days. All of this was accomplished within our Quality Management System, including labor recording, material movements, and error reporting.

Beyond the manufacturing line, Kinjal is point-person, communicating directly with several key clients on issues such as CAD data, component issues, and part inventory transactions.

In today’s market place, it is important to have reliable people that can lead in several areas. Kinjal has helped Aimtron be successful, and will continue to grow with the company.

In these economic times, competitive prices are key to both supplier and buyer. It is possible for everyone to achieve their goals. As part of your risk management, be sure to review your partner’s financial strength. Be sure to ask…

Is your Contract Manufacturer financially secure?

Are they debt free?

Do credit issues hold up critical delivery dates?

Aging equipment not capable of your needs?

Aimtron Corporation is financially strong.

Beyond the front office, these benefits extend to the shop floor.

- New equipment and under warrenty

- Real purchasing power to bring in equipment as needed

Aimtron’s project base ranges from large to small. We are actively engaging clients in high tech industries such as Medical, Defense, Green Energy, and high technology Industrial designs. Additionally, we serve entrepreneurs who come to us with nothing more than an idea they are passionate about.

We love Projects
Think of a common object around you. Perhaps your TV, for instance. Inside, there are likely several assemblies making up the devices as a whole. There is a main ‘brain’ circuit board. Maybe an input/output board for all the connections. A board for the front panel controls. Oh yes, and don’t forget the remote control. All together, four discrete assemblies making up the TV device as a whole.

Aimtron approaches a project with several efficiencies in mind. Beyond the technical aspects of machine assembly, it is likely several boards together share common components. When quoting materials, all assemblies bundled together increase the purchasing power, and thus savings for both manufacturer and client.

Passionate About Assemblies
Prototype through high volume, Aimtron enjoys short cycle times. Strong leadership and good communication, and flexibility makes us successful.

All Technologies
In most cases, the typical assembly consists of tightly packed passives, BGA devices, supporting ICs, and mixed through hole components. Since day 1, Aimtron has been successfully assembling double-sided BGA and dense 0201 designs. We service simple through hole boards as well, with the same level of attention to detail and quality.

Experience
Our staff, from Engineers to Shop Associates, are all seasoned industry veterans, familiar with the particular challenges associated with medical, military, and automotive devices. We bring a special enthusiasm to all clients, and our experience brings results. Aimtron’s assembly equipment is first-class, and ready to serve the most demanding projects, large or small.

Imagine Chicago’s finest manufacturing minds coming together to form a new vision in contract manufacturing…

Welcome to Aimtron.

We are aware of challenges in today’s marketplace, and will help you navigate toward your goals together.

Although our vision is fresh, our values are traditional. Our expertise is well beyond the technical aspects.
We value people. We are excited about the fact that our efforts go out into the real world, and make it a better place.
Internally, our employees feel valued and empowered.

Our goal is to revitalizing the way the world views manufacturing in Chicagoland.

From quick turn prototype to high volume offshore, Aimtron is an end-to-end base of solutions.

Contract assembly is a fairly straightforward process. We do not want to bore you with numbers regarding placements per hour. What we are excited about conveying is our commitment to quality, our can-do attitude, and vast experience.

Our zero-debt and commitment to Lean manufacturing principles mean lower overhead and better long term security for you and your projects.

ISO13485:2003        Certified, Ready for today’s Medical and high tech industries
ISO 9001:2008         Certified, Recognized standard for quality
ESDA S.2020:2007 Certified, Member of an exclusive list of companies focused on long-term longevity of devices

All of these certifications were well researched. A team commitment drove us through the certification process, and we are proud to report obtaining success on our FIRST audit. It is quite a feeling when an experienced auditor compliments your quality management system. It’s this commitment that we can bring to your projects.

Aimtron would like the opportunity to speak with you regarding projects.

If there are no current projects, that is fine, we would still like to hear about the issues facing you in today’s marketplace.

This week’s edition of This American Life is a must listen treat for everyone in our industry. I am very saddened by the news that Toyota’s joint venture with General Motors, the NUMMI facility in California, recently closed. Ira Glass takes a detailed look inside NUMMI, and examines what happened there, and why GM did not deploy the lessons learned. Please take advantage of the free mp3.

As I have formally studied the Toyota Production System, I have often wondered why more companies have not taken advantage Toyota’s free gifts to the industry. Here at Aimtron, we continuously examine our process, and rely heavily on Teamwork. I am thankful for Toyota being so open with their ideas, and hope you can learn as well.
